Pleasure Island to be razed…

July 29, 2007

All the buildings along the eastern side of the 1400 block of Ocean Terrace will be razed within the next month, according to sources. This includes the former locations of the Seafarer Motel, and Pleasure Island, the indoor gaming facility, built in the very late 1980’s. (Locals will probably remember the Jamaican-themed music for the original commercial with the jingle, “It’s indoors, and outta sight, Pleasure Island.”) Soon the buildings will be history, and will be replaced with one of the most anticipated condominium projects of the many that have been planned this decade in Seaside Heights. The Edge is the name of the new project, and it is already promising to be the most luxurious condo complex in town.

The fastest clam-shucker in Seaside Heights….

Whole shell clams were on the menu at a recent event, and Seaside Heights Mayor Ken Hershey had the opportunity to show off his expertise in shucking clams. You see, shucking clams was the Mayor’s former career. Longtime locals know that years ago, Ken’s parents were the owners of the Hershey’s Clam Bar, which is now the Hershey Motel (The Mayor built the motel in later years, and later sold the property). Onlookers were extremely impressed with how the Mayor expertly opened clam after clam, something he hasn’t done in years.

Seaside Heights Lifeguard Lobster Bake held..

On the evening of Friday July 20th, the Seaside Heights Beach Patrol held its annual tradition of a Clam and Lobster Bake on the beach at Hiering Avenue. The event dates back decades, and lifeguards of yesterday and today alike are seen in attendance. 2007 greeted the event with perfect weather. Live music played from the nearby stage, as guests mingled at the party. Later in the evening, a huge bonfire was the focal point of the gathering while fireworks were shot off in the background. On August 5th, the SHBP will be having another party, after the John Boyd Memorial Swim. Info on the John Boyd Swim can be found by calling 732-793-4646.
