Cool People for the Week of 6/15-6/21 ’08

June 15, 2008

It is with the greatest sorrow that the Seaside Heights Office of Public Relations must announce the untimely passing of Seaside Heights Police Captain David “Dave” Szalkowski. Captain Szalkowski lost an 11-year battle with the dreaded illness Scleroderma, which attacked his lungs, on Tuesday June 17th. The Captain underwent a double lung transplant on Saturday May 17th in Pittsburgh, and had been considered a high-risk case. Although initial reports were hopeful that the Captain was doing well, a sudden infection developed, and Dave did not make it. Captain Szalkowski had many friends, and this was obvious at his packed benefit on May 2, 2008, days before he left for Pittsburgh. Dave is survived by his wife Elayne, a teenage son and a pre-teen daughter. Dave was a talented, intelligent and gifted individual, an all-around good guy and good friend. No one who knew or worked with him will ever forget him. Rest in Peace Dave.

See Dentato’s new awning…

June 15, 2008

This attractive awning at Dentato’s, Sherman Avenue and the Boardwalk in Seaside Heights, has replaced the original, damaged last month in a storm.

See Dentato’s new awning: Dentato’s, Sherman Avenue and the Boardwalk in Seaside Heights has recently debuted a new awning to surround the outside eating area of the well-known clam bar and restaurant. The original blue awning was destroyed in the freak May 12th Nor’Easter, which brought near hurricane force gusts to the Jersey Shore. The new awning is red, and in theme of Coca-Cola, which has a clever new slogan this year: Seaside: Hot, Coca-Cola: Cool. The awning also serves as a greeting to guests entering from this area, announcing, “Welcome to Casino Pier.”

Miss P’s class visits Seaside Heights…

June 15, 2008

The students of Miss Kimberly Pascarella are seen on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights with dad Kim Pascarella and Berkeley Township Superintendent of Schools Joe Vicari.

Miss P’s class visits Seaside Heights: For the second year in a row, the students of Miss Kimberly Pascarella visited the boardwalk in Seaside Heights. In a tradition began in 2007, Miss P’s class from H & M Potter School in Bayville visited Lucky Leo’s Arcade as guests of the Whalen family. Miss P. and dad, local attorney Kim Pascarella said that some of the students remembered the special day from last time, and talked about it in great anticipation all year. Also in tradition, Berkeley Township Superintendent of Schools Joe Vicari was invited to the event.
