Water Safety Day 2008 best-ever says participants: Water Safety Day 2008 was the best-ever said longtime participants. Up until a few years ago, the event was being held at the Seaside Heights bayfront, which is not a high-traffic area. Fearing the event might fold, it was moved to the more suitable location of Hiering Avenue and The Boardwalk on a Free Beach Day. This change happened in 2006, but both 2006 and 2007 brought less-than-desirable weather conditions, so attendance wasn’t what it could have been. 2008 saw a beautiful, rain and cloud free day, and big crowds at the event, which was held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Water Safety Day doesn’t only promote water safety, but also all types of summer time safety, including bike safety, child identification, and the use of sunscreen, which is seriously underused based on the amount of cases of sunburn witnessed by members of the Office of Public Relations, which organizes the event along with many other persons, including Roden Lightbody of the Ocean County Traffic Engineering Department. Plans are already in place for Water Safety Day 2009, which will presumably be held again on the traditional third Wednesday in July.
