An all-night bonfire burns bright in Seaside Heights on the evening of September 21st, remembering all the Prisoners of War Missing in Action.

Mounds of wood were necessary to keep the flames going all night in remembrance of the POW/MIA’s.

Once again, the beach at Hiering Avenue in Seaside Heights was host for the annual bonfire put on by the local American Legion. This bonfire has a two-fold purpose. First, the fire is used a way to properly retire older American flags. Second, the fire is an opportunity to remember Prisoners of War Missing in Action. Seaside Heights has been dedicated to the cause of the POW/MIA for at least 25 years. Memorial plaques on the lawn at the Borough Hall prove this, dating back to 1983.
