AVP will be in Seaside Heights for 5 more years….

It looks like the AVP or the Association of Volleyball Professionals will be in Seaside Heights through the year 2012. The popular sporting event, which is aired nationally on the FOX Sports Network, used to be in Seaside Heights years back, but then later moved to Belmar. Since 2006, the AVP has returned to Seaside Heights. In ’06, the event was on the south end of the beach, between Grant Avenue and Hamilton Avenue. Because of logistical reasons, the event was moved to the north end of the beach by Hiering Avenue. Although there were some objectors to the move north, a vast majority of the comments were positive about the move, with the feeling that the Hiering Avenue property lends itself more to the quick set-up and breakdown of the event with minimal interference. Dave Popkin from Positive Impact Partners, the local marketing branch of AVP said that he was happy for another great year and a great turn out for the finals. Mr. Popkin also said he liked the new locale, and would see if it would be at Hiering Aveue in 2008. Seaside Heights Police Chief Tommy Boyd said of the AVP, “We love having them here. Seaside Heights is on the way up.” Some footage of the AVP finals is included in Pete’s July 14th talky blog.
